The fourth-generation Vios (AC100) debuted on 9 August 2022 in Thailand as the Yaris Ativ (the Vios name was dropped there), developed by Daihatsu through the Toyota-Daihatsu Emerging-market Compact Car Company under executive chief engineer Hideyuki Kamino on the DNGA-B platform shared with the W100 Avanza/Veloz, with no Daihatsu-badged twin. It has a 70 mm longer wheelbase (2,620 mm) and a fastback-like sloping roof; the interior is more premium with soft-touch materials, an optional 64-colour ambient lighting system and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, and it is typically offered in three grades. Power comes from a 1.2-litre 3NR-VE (Thailand; 69 kW / 93 hp and 81.1 lb·ft, with a CVT), a 1.3-litre 1NR-VE or a 1.5-litre 2NR-VE with a 5-speed manual or 7-speed simulated CVT; the Vios/Yaris Ativ Hybrid launched in Thailand on 21 August 2025 with a 1.5-litre 2NR-VEX and an electric motor for a combined 82 kW (110 hp) and 262 N·m (193 lb·ft) through an e-CVT, weighing 120 kg more than the petrol cars. Toyota builds it in Malaysia for the Malaysian market and in Thailand for Thai and export markets, targeting 3,500 a month in Thailand.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

The Vios topped Vietnam's sales charts every single year from 2014 through 2020 — a run no rival could break.

Only 600 Vios Turbos were ever built, and Toyota gave this budget sedan the transmission and differential gearing straight out of the MR-S sports car.

Thailand got a secret pocket-rocket Vios: a turbocharged 143 PS XP40 variant with a bonnet scoop, of which only about 600 units were ever built.

It briefly served as senior sibling to Marquette, a GM companion brand cancelled after just one year.

Nissan hired former BMW engineers to help develop the 510's suspension, which is why period reviewers frequently compared its handling to the BMW 1600/2002.

A Trabant 601 won its class at the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, with a second 601 right behind it in second.

The 600 was a stopgap: the P50's body over the 601's mechanicals, and for a while its estate was built alongside the new 601 saloon.

The G80 Sport brought a 370 PS twin-turbo 3.3 V6, a mesh grille and copper-tinted chrome with copper stitching to match.

The Vigor was sold only with a five-cylinder engine, an unusual configuration Honda used to fit a longer engine transversely under a short hood.

The GS/E coupe earned the nickname "German Charger" for its long hood, short deck stance borrowed from Detroit muscle cars.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
