The GLC Electric (X540), marketed as the GLC with EQ Technology, is a battery electric compact luxury crossover that shares its name with the combustion GLC (X254) but is not related to it. It debuted at the 2025 Munich Motor Show as the GLC 400 4MATIC, built on the MB.EA platform with an 800-volt architecture, a 94 kWh battery and a two-speed transmission on the rear axle; it is built from 2026 in Bremen, Sindelfingen and Beijing, where a long-wheelbase GLC 350L is made. It replaces the EQC.

It grew six centimetres over the first GLC, yet the drag coefficient fell from 0.31 to 0.29 and the boot gained 50 litres, to 600.

This GLC63 generation dropped AMG's signature V8 biturbo entirely — the S E Performance version makes its power from a 2.0-litre turbo four paired with a plug-in hybrid motor instead.

The second-gen GLC 43 quietly gets a more track-biased all-wheel-drive system than its own siblings — torque split 31/69 rear-biased, versus 45/55 on the regular GLC.

GLC isn't just initials: the "G" borrows from Geländewagen, tying Mercedes' compact SUV to the legendary G-Class.
