The second-generation GLC (X254, with the C254 GLC Coupé and a long-wheelbase V254 for China) was unveiled in June 2022 and is built in Bremen and Sindelfingen, among other plants. It shares the MRA2 platform with the W206 C-Class and, like it, uses only four-cylinder engines with 48-volt mild-hybrid EQ Boost, plus plug-in hybrids with a 31.2 kWh battery, a six-cylinder diesel GLC 450d and the AMG GLC 43 and 63. It is larger than its predecessor, and mainline 4Matic models keep permanent all-wheel drive. The unrelated battery electric GLC (X540) is a separate model.

GLC isn't just initials: the "G" borrows from Geländewagen, tying Mercedes' compact SUV to the legendary G-Class.
