The Hyptec HL is a six-seat full-size SUV built by GAC Aion in Guangzhou and sold under the Hyptec marque since 2025. Codenamed AH8, it was announced in July 2021 as a joint project with Huawei, which later withdrew, and was revealed at Auto Guangzhou in November 2024, with EV deliveries from April 2025. It uses an 800 V architecture with 5C charging and comes as a battery electric car with one or two motors, or as a range extender with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine. It has air suspension and a 17.3-inch central display.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

Every Defender before this one was body-on-frame — this generation broke decades of tradition with an aluminium unibody structure instead.

Despite launching from a standing start in late 2025, the i60 topped GAC Aion's own sales chart through January's seasonal slowdown.

Rear passengers get a 17.3-inch screen that extends from the roof, and a lidar sensor sits in the front of the roof.

Crashed on the passenger side instead of the driver's, the 2014 Forester showed far more intrusion and would have rated Marginal with the IIHS.

The Avalanche's clever midgate — folding the cab into the bed — was good enough that GM copied it straight onto the GMC Envoy XUV and Hummer H2 SUT.
