FactThis HR-V started life as a concept literally called Urban SUV, and Honda sold it as the Vezel everywhere that mattered at home.
The second-generation HR-V was previewed by the Urban SUV Concept in 2013 and unveiled in November 2013 at the Tokyo Motor Show as the Vezel, the name it kept in Japan and China; Dongfeng Honda also sold it as the XR-V. Built on the Fit platform, it was Honda's smallest SUV, below the CR-V, with a coupé-like sloping roof, hidden rear door handles and the Fit's Magic Seats. Engines included 1.5 and 1.8-litre petrol fours, a 1.5 turbo, a 1.6 i-DTEC diesel and a 1.5-litre i-DCD hybrid with a seven-speed dual-clutch. In North America it was sold for the 2016 to 2022 model years.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

For this generation, Honda split the HR-V nameplate in two: the rest of the world got the Vezel-based original, while North America and China got a completely different, larger HR-V built on the Civic platform.

This HR-V started life as a concept literally called Urban SUV, and Honda sold it as the Vezel everywhere that mattered at home.

The original HR-V's four-wheel-drive system came straight off the CR-V, Honda's Real Time 4WD, shared between an SUV and this odd little three-door coupe-crossover.

IIHS only crash-tests the driver's corner; tested on the passenger side instead, the CX-5 showed far worse intrusion.

Despite launching from a standing start in late 2025, the i60 topped GAC Aion's own sales chart through January's seasonal slowdown.

Every Defender before this one was body-on-frame — this generation broke decades of tradition with an aluminium unibody structure instead.

Crashed on the passenger side instead of the driver's, the 2014 Forester showed far more intrusion and would have rated Marginal with the IIHS.

Subaru built a 2.5XT for the National Ski Patrol with a diamond-plate floor, a 9,500-pound winch and a toboggan on the roof.

The L405 was the first Range Rover with a fully aluminum monocoque body, cutting up to 420 kg from the outgoing steel-bodied L322.

Rear passengers get a 17.3-inch screen that extends from the roof, and a lidar sensor sits in the front of the roof.

Its range-extender variant is rated for 1,200 km on a tank and charge, over three times the car's electric-only range.
