FactDid you know the SZ Territory drove Ford Australia past a big milestone? In 2012 a white TX TDCi RWD model became the 150,000th Territory built.
The SZ series, released in April 2011 (a A$230 million development, with Ford's Kinetic Design front, horizontal taillights and an estimated drag coefficient of 0.38) was based on the E8 platform of the FG Falcon (codenamed E265A) and gained the FG's eight-inch colour touch screen and SYNC system, a driver's knee airbag and a new Bosch 9.0 stability control with anti-roll-over. Mechanically it introduced the first diesel in a Ford Australia locally made vehicle — a turbocharged, direct-injection 2.7-litre 60-degree V6 "Duratorq" (a seven-year-old Ford AJD-V6/PSA DT17 unit from the Jaguar XF and Land Rover Discovery 3, reportedly up to 25% less CO2) for RWD and AWD — plus an electric power-assist steering, with the further-upgraded 4.0-litre Barra six (195 kW / 261 hp and 391 N·m, Euro 4) only for the RWD petrol car; petrol AWD models were no longer offered. The TX, TS and Titanium (replacing the Ghia) were the range, the Titanium being the most popular and the only variant exported to Thailand from late 2012, and the 150,000th Territory (a white TX TDCi RWD) was built in 2012. The SZ II began production alongside the FG X Falcon on 20 October 2014 (on sale December 2014) with a new fascia and alloys, SYNC2 and about 0.5% better fuel consumption; full Australian production ended in October 2016.

In China this car is the Equator Sport; exported, it becomes the Territory, and South Africa became its first right-hand-drive market.

Never sold in Australia, it was still tuned at Ford's Geelong proving ground, and underneath it is a reworked JMC Yusheng S330.

The SY update made the Territory the first Australian-built car ever fitted with a reversing camera.

The Territory's interior designer took his inspiration from a knife — and the result included flexing cup holders and a dedicated handbag holder.
