FactSuzuki marketed this Cervo mainly to women, calling one trim the CX-L, its own ladies' version.
The Cervo returned Suzuki to the kei sports-coupé market in October 1977 after a break of over a year, as successor to the Giugiaro-designed Fronte Coupé. It is a rear-engine 2+2 coupé hatchback on the chassis of the 1976 Fronte 7-S, with round headlights and a rear glass hatch, powered by the larger 539 cc T5A two-stroke three-cylinder, strangled by emissions rules to 28 PS at 5,000 rpm against the most powerful 360 cc version's 37 PS. Suzuki knew it was no longer a mini GT, and advertised it mainly to women (except the sporty CX-G, the only one with front discs): entry CX, the "ladies' version" CX-L added in September 1978, and the top CX-G. It was discontinued in June 1982 for the front-wheel-drive SS40. In Chile it was sold as the SC80 with the 797 cc F8A or 970 cc F10A four-cylinder.

The HG21S Cervo SR pulled off something no other turbocharged kei car managed — qualifying for Japan’s lower eco-tax grade while still being the most powerful version in the lineup.

The SR-Four trim made this Cervo a double first — only the second kei car with a four-cylinder engine, and the very first with a 16-valve DOHC turbo.

This kei car quietly beat the world to electric power steering in 1988 — offered as a pricey surcharge option, a decade before EPS went mainstream.

Suzuki pitched the Cervo as its sporty kei car — but anyone over 5'8" would crack their head on the roof just sitting in it.

Britain couldn't get enough of the tiny Suzuki SC100 Whizzkid: demand always outstripped supply, and the importer still shifted 4,696 of them before the car became a minor British classic.

Japan was a minor market for the Swift: when it passed 2 million sales in 2011, about 39% were in India and 27% in Europe, against roughly 15% at home.

To adapt the Horizon for America, Chrysler bought nearly 100 Volkswagen Rabbits purely to reverse engineer them.

The Mk3 Focus RS's AWD system could send 100 percent of engine power to the rear wheels alone — built not in Ford's home country, but at the Saarlouis plant in Germany.

In June 2003, a Mégane II became the subject of the first ever live televised crash test with a real human driver at the wheel instead of a dummy — filmed by Top Gear.

This Wagon R redesigned its rear doors specifically to kill off the D-pillar — bigger doors with built-in quarter glass solved what earlier generations needed a whole extra pillar for.

Built to use up Chrysler-Simca's parts bin, it took its engine and gearbox straight from the front-wheel-drive Simca 1100 but mounted them amidships instead.
