FactThis Legacy generation gave Japan a 276 bhp twin-turbo B4 sedan, taxed lighter at home while Australia detuned it to 98 RON fuel.
The third-generation Legacy, launched in Japan and worldwide in June 1998 and in North America in May 1999 for 2000, as an AWD-standard mid-size sedan (B4, sold as the Liberty in Australia) and wagon (Touring Wagon, Outback). The B4 was sedan-only and introduced with this generation; the RSK ("Rally Sport Kompressor") used the DOHC twin-turbo 2.0 L rated 276 bhp (265 bhp for the automatic), popular in Japan for its tax advantages; Australian B4s were detuned to 98 RON. Also a 2.0/2.5 naturally aspirated range and a 3.0 L EZ30 flat-six. The BH5 GT wagon is catalogued separately.
