FactThe second Superb's boot lid is a hidden hatchback: pull one handle and the rear glass lifts too, Škoda's TwinDoor trick nobody else copied.
Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in early March 2008, designed by Jens Manske on a stretched version of the Octavia A5 platform (VW Group A6/PQ46), so it moved to a transverse engine layout. It is a four-door five-seater with an innovative "TwinDoor" boot lid that opens either as a conventional boot or as a hatchback including the rear glass. The Superb Combi estate, with 633 litres of boot space, was shown to the press in June 2009 and debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show that September. Launch petrols were the 1.4 TFSI (125 PS), a 1.8 TFSI (160 PS) and the flagship 3.6 FSI VR6 (260 PS, a detuned version of the Passat R36 engine) with four-wheel drive and a six-speed DSG, good for 250 km/h and 0–100 km/h in 6.5 seconds; diesels started with the 2.0 TDI PD (140 PS), a 2.0 TDI common-rail (170 PS) and a 1.9 TDI. It was also built in China, India and elsewhere.
