Introduced at the 2004 Paris Motor Show after a preview at the 2004 Madrid Motor Show (the Toledo Prototipo), and built from February 2004 to May 2009 on the Golf Mk5's PQ35 platform. The bodywork abandoned the traditional three-box saloon for a five-door hatchback sedan penned by Walter de'Silva, closer to a compact MPV with the Altea's front section, a high roof and a rear end inspired by the Renault Vel Satis, with a 500-litre DIN boot (1,440 litres folded). Every engine is shared with other Volkswagen Group cars, petrols from 102 to 150 PS and diesels from 105 to 140 PS, plus a 170 PS TDI from 2006, a tiptronic for the 2.0 FSI and a 1.8 turbo from mid-2007. SEAT dropped the sporty pretensions for a more upscale image, and the Audi A4 B7-based Exeo (October 2008) was not meant to replace it, though the Toledo ended in May 2009 through low sales.

We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

The last Toledo wasn't really a SEAT build — it shared its platform with the Škoda Rapid and came off the same Škoda line in Mladá Boleslav.

Open the Toledo Mk2's dash and you're looking at an Audi: SEAT borrowed the first-generation A3's dashboard for its budget sedan.

A Chinese automaker built its own version of the first SEAT Toledo after acquiring a chassis from, of all places, a Mexican dealership — with SEAT's blessing.

It briefly served as senior sibling to Marquette, a GM companion brand cancelled after just one year.

Nissan hired former BMW engineers to help develop the 510's suspension, which is why period reviewers frequently compared its handling to the BMW 1600/2002.

A Trabant 601 won its class at the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, with a second 601 right behind it in second.

The 600 was a stopgap: the P50's body over the 601's mechanicals, and for a while its estate was built alongside the new 601 saloon.

The G80 Sport brought a 370 PS twin-turbo 3.3 V6, a mesh grille and copper-tinted chrome with copper stitching to match.

The Vigor was sold only with a five-cylinder engine, an unusual configuration Honda used to fit a longer engine transversely under a short hood.

The GS/E coupe earned the nickname "German Charger" for its long hood, short deck stance borrowed from Detroit muscle cars.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
