FactThe Cedric Cima, sharing much of its hardware, drew away the buyers of top Brougham Cedrics, leaving the Brougham VIP the rarest version.
The Y32 Cedric was built from June 1991 to 1995 only as a four-door hardtop for private buyers, a reskin of the Y31 whose sedan continued for fleet use; it shared much of its mechanicals with the Cedric Cima. Engines were SOHC and DOHC VG-series V6s, including a 255 PS VG30DET turbo, and a 2.8-litre RD28 diesel six, with no four-cylinder option and automatic transmissions only. The performance Gran Turismo returned to four round headlights. Production ended in May 1995 before the Y33 hardtop arrived in June.

We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

Nissan built a one-off Y34 Cedric roadster for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows baseball team — it was still shuttling relief pitchers to the mound as a bullpen car in 2017.

In June 1989, the turbocharged Y31 Cedric became the first car anywhere with a full-range electronically controlled 5-speed automatic: Nissan's Jatco 5R01, a world first.

Top versions had a PIN keypad on the door handles, a radio that could tune in TV broadcasts and a cellphone inside the rear armrest.

To win official approval for Japan's first turbocharged car engine, Nissan pitched the turbo on its energy-saving potential.

Nissan built its millionth Cedric in October 1977, a milestone reached mid-run on the 330 generation.

It briefly served as senior sibling to Marquette, a GM companion brand cancelled after just one year.

Nissan hired former BMW engineers to help develop the 510's suspension, which is why period reviewers frequently compared its handling to the BMW 1600/2002.

A Trabant 601 won its class at the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, with a second 601 right behind it in second.

The 600 was a stopgap: the P50's body over the 601's mechanicals, and for a while its estate was built alongside the new 601 saloon.

The G80 Sport brought a 370 PS twin-turbo 3.3 V6, a mesh grille and copper-tinted chrome with copper stitching to match.

The Vigor was sold only with a five-cylinder engine, an unusual configuration Honda used to fit a longer engine transversely under a short hood.

The GS/E coupe earned the nickname "German Charger" for its long hood, short deck stance borrowed from Detroit muscle cars.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
