The Mercedes-AMG A 45 4MATIC+ and A 45 S 4MATIC+ are the high-performance versions of the fourth-generation A-Class (W177). Their M139 engine is a heavily revised M133 with a higher compression ratio and a twin-scroll turbocharger behind the engine; the A 45 S version is described as the second most powerful series-production four-cylinder engine. Both use an eight-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.

This A-Class flipped over during a Swedish magazine's moose-avoidance test — Mercedes denied it at first, then recalled every one of the 2,600 cars sold and halted sales for three months to fix it.
