The Ford Everest is a mid-size SUV produced by the Ford Motor Company since 2003, developed and destined mainly for the Asia-Pacific region with production centred in Thailand; the first generation (U268/UR) is derived from the Mazda-based Ford Ranger pickup and has no Mazda equivalent. Unveiled in March 2003 at the 24th Bangkok International Motor Show and developed for Asian markets under chief platform engineer Masaki Makihara (four years and US$100 million), it shares 60 percent of the Ranger's components, including its 2.5-litre intercooled turbo-diesel engine and the exterior styling from the front to the B-pillars, with the Ranger's double wishbone independent front suspension and live axle with leaf springs at the rear, and no lockable rear differential. It was a three-row, seven-seater (a 10-seater with face-to-face third-row benches in some markets such as Indonesia), built at AutoAlliance Thailand in Rayong and from CKD kits in Chengalpattu, India, and Hai Duong, Vietnam, and sold in Southeast Asia, India, the Middle East, Central America, the Bahamas and several African countries; in India it was launched as the Endeavour on 14 October 2003, to avoid legal issues with a spice-making brand of the same name. In January 2007 a major facelift replaced the front and side body panels to match the redesigned Ranger, with a new 5-speed automatic with BorgWarner transfer case and an Active-Shift-on-the-Fly function (4x4 only), and the 2007–2015 model is sometimes called the second-generation Everest; further facelifts came in May 2009, September 2012 and August 2013. Engines: 2.6 L G6E petrol four, 2.5 L WL Duratorq diesel, 2.5 L WL-T Duratorq turbodiesel and 3.0 L VS Duratorq turbodiesel, with 5-speed manual, 4-speed automatic or 5-speed automatic. Wheelbase 2,860 mm (112.6 in). The page gives no power figures for any Everest engine.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

The Middle East Tremor swaps in an F-150 engine: a 2.7-litre twin-turbo V6 making 310 horsepower, badge-exclusive to that region.

Ford's engineers deleted the centre differential entirely, using an electromechanical clutch pack so the Everest can run rear-drive-only on tarmac.

A French army truck descends from this Everest: the Arquus Trapper VT4 built its 4,000th unit in September 2022.

Every Defender before this one was body-on-frame — this generation broke decades of tradition with an aluminium unibody structure instead.

Crashed on the passenger side instead of the driver's, the 2014 Forester showed far more intrusion and would have rated Marginal with the IIHS.
