The first-generation EcoSport was designed by Ford's Brazil Development Center under the code BV226, the "Amazon Project", and built at Camaçari, Brazil, from 2003 to 2012 on the Ford B3 platform of the European Fiesta and Fusion. It became one of Ford's best-sellers in Brazil and was popular in Argentina, Venezuela and Mexico, with cumulative sales of 700,000 by 2011. Engines were 1.0 supercharged and 1.6 Zetec-Rocam fours, a 2.0 Duratec and a 1.4 Duratorq diesel.

Ford's budget-entry EcoSport quietly picked up an 8-inch floating touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto — tech that had been a premium-SUV feature not long before.

Its 2014 European debut sold only 11,000 against over 100,000 for each main rival, so Ford revised it in 2015 to suit European tastes.

Developed in Brazil as the "Amazon Project", it was offered with a supercharged 1.0-litre engine until 2006.

IIHS only crash-tests the driver's corner; tested on the passenger side instead, the CX-5 showed far worse intrusion.

Despite launching from a standing start in late 2025, the i60 topped GAC Aion's own sales chart through January's seasonal slowdown.

Every Defender before this one was body-on-frame — this generation broke decades of tradition with an aluminium unibody structure instead.

Crashed on the passenger side instead of the driver's, the 2014 Forester showed far more intrusion and would have rated Marginal with the IIHS.

Subaru built a 2.5XT for the National Ski Patrol with a diamond-plate floor, a 9,500-pound winch and a toboggan on the roof.

The L405 was the first Range Rover with a fully aluminum monocoque body, cutting up to 420 kg from the outgoing steel-bodied L322.
