The L250/L260 Mira, unrelated to the earlier 200-series, is the sixth generation of the car, built at Ikeda, Osaka from December 2002 to December 2006 and sold in Japan as the Mira. It was labelled the Daihatsu Charade in the United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia and the Gulf States and the Cuore elsewhere; export versions with the 1.0-litre EJ engine are L251, while L260 is the four-wheel-drive version for the Japanese market only. Engines are the 659 cc EF and 989 cc EJ three-cylinders with a 5-speed manual or 3/4-speed automatic or CVT. A sportier Mira Avy was also sold in Japan, the range had a very minor facelift in August 2005, and a special-needs Mira Friend-Matic (with a driver's door opening 90° and a fully automated entry system, driven directly from the self-powered Mira Self-Matic wheelchair) appeared in November 2005 and stayed available until August 2009. After the L250 was replaced in late 2006 its production line moved to Malaysia, where it was built as the Perodua Viva from May 2007 to September 2014.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

Daihatsu killed the Mira in 2018 not for slow sales but because it could no longer meet Japan's incoming crash standards.

A wheelchair-accessible Mira, driven straight out of a self-powered wheelchair through an automated door, stayed on sale until 2009.

The Mira TR's turbo engine was tuned to exactly 64 PS, the informal ceiling every Japanese kei-car maker agreed never to exceed.

A limited Mira Moderno came badged with Sanrio's Hello Kitty in January 1998, aimed squarely at buyers who wanted a kei car with a cartoon cat on it.

This Mira could be had with mechanical four-wheel steering, a feature no other kei car of its time offered.

Daihatsu built a pickup version of this Mira in Thailand that alone lifted the company's Thai sales by 50 percent.

The Mira launched as a straight replacement for the Max Cuore, yet enthusiasts still count it as the second-generation Cuore.
