The third-generation Sail was presented at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November 2014 and began production in December 2014 on a new small-car platform developed by SAIC-GM and PATAC, adopting Chevrolet's new design language with the dual-port grille and eagle-eye headlamps; it is a four-door sedan only, 45 mm longer (4,300 mm) with a wheelbase 35 mm longer (2,500 mm) than its predecessor, a 366 L boot, and start-stop on both petrol engines. The 1.3-litre VVT makes 76 kW (103 PS) and 127 N·m (93.7 lb·ft), the 1.5-litre DVVT 83 kW (113 PS) and 141 N·m (104.0 lb·ft), with a 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic. It was built at Yantai and in Quito, exported to Chile, the Philippines, Peru, Mexico (as the Aveo, from November 2017 for the 2019 model year, renamed to avoid association with the zero-star second generation) and Myanmar, and discontinued in China in 2019. Latin NCAP gave the basic 2-airbag Chinese-made New Aveo 2 adult stars and 4 toddler stars in 2018 and 3 and 4 after the May 2019 update. A fourth generation (310C), a rebadged Chevrolet Aveo built by SAIC-GM-Wuling, reached Chile in September 2023 as a 2024 model. Wheelbase 98.4 in, length 169.3 in, width 68.3 in, height 59.2 in.

We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

This Sail generation quietly spawned an electric twin, the Springo EV, good for up to 200 km of range at a steady 37 mph.

The humble Sail platform even spun off a postal van — Shanghai Auto's Saibao SAC6420 shared the Sail's 1.6-litre engine and five-speed gearbox, built in batches as small as 2,053 units a year.

It briefly served as senior sibling to Marquette, a GM companion brand cancelled after just one year.

Nissan hired former BMW engineers to help develop the 510's suspension, which is why period reviewers frequently compared its handling to the BMW 1600/2002.

A Trabant 601 won its class at the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, with a second 601 right behind it in second.

The 600 was a stopgap: the P50's body over the 601's mechanicals, and for a while its estate was built alongside the new 601 saloon.

The G80 Sport brought a 370 PS twin-turbo 3.3 V6, a mesh grille and copper-tinted chrome with copper stitching to match.

The Vigor was sold only with a five-cylinder engine, an unusual configuration Honda used to fit a longer engine transversely under a short hood.

The GS/E coupe earned the nickname "German Charger" for its long hood, short deck stance borrowed from Detroit muscle cars.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
