The Chevrolet Sail is a subcompact car built by SAIC-GM, launched in 2001 as the Buick Sail in sedan and wagon (Sail S-RV) forms based on the Opel Corsa B: the first Chinese-made Buick came off the line on 12 December 2000 in trial production, with series production from June 2001 and a price under 100,000 RMB. The only engine was a 1.6-litre 92 PS inline-four with a five-speed manual; the same body shared design with the Brazilian Chevrolet Corsa Classic, and a locally built Opel Combo van, the Saibao SAC6420 (90 PS), ran from June 2002 to 2005. When the Chevrolet brand returned to China in February 2005 the car became the first Shanghai GM-built Chevrolet, the Chevrolet Sail (SGM7166), with an upgraded design and the 90 PS 1.6 unchanged (a four-speed automatic was added; claimed top speed 177 km/h for the manual, and the wagon 71 mm longer at 4,097 mm), exported to Chile from autumn 2006 as the Corsa Plus. Shanghai-GM production ceased at the beginning of 2009, but the Chevrolet Classic and Classic SW took on the Sail's design for Latin America for the 2010 model year, the sedan built in Argentina until October 2016 with a 1.4 L 8V 69 kW (94 PS) engine and, in Brazil, a 1.0-litre Flexpower making 56.7 kW (77 PS) on petrol or 57.4 kW (78 PS) on alcohol. The infobox lists 1.2 LMU, 1.4 LCU and 1.6 BPR6EY petrol engines with a 5-speed manual and 5- or 4-speed automatics, and a wheelbase of 98.4 in, length 169.3 in, width 68.3 in and height 59.2 in.

This Sail generation scored zero stars for adult occupants in a 2016 Latin NCAP crash test — a result so bad GM rebranded the next Sail as an Aveo in Mexico just to escape the association.

This Sail generation quietly spawned an electric twin, the Springo EV, good for up to 200 km of range at a steady 37 mph.

It briefly served as senior sibling to Marquette, a GM companion brand cancelled after just one year.

Nissan hired former BMW engineers to help develop the 510's suspension, which is why period reviewers frequently compared its handling to the BMW 1600/2002.

A Trabant 601 won its class at the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, with a second 601 right behind it in second.

The 600 was a stopgap: the P50's body over the 601's mechanicals, and for a while its estate was built alongside the new 601 saloon.

The G80 Sport brought a 370 PS twin-turbo 3.3 V6, a mesh grille and copper-tinted chrome with copper stitching to match.

The Vigor was sold only with a five-cylinder engine, an unusual configuration Honda used to fit a longer engine transversely under a short hood.

The GS/E coupe earned the nickname "German Charger" for its long hood, short deck stance borrowed from Detroit muscle cars.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
