FactThis Sail generation quietly spawned an electric twin, the Springo EV, good for up to 200 km of range at a steady 37 mph.
On 11 January 2010 Shanghai-GM introduced the all-new Chevrolet Sail, designed and engineered by the Pan-Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) on the Gamma platform and said to be engineered for 4 stars in C-NCAP, with a 1.2-litre S-TEC II 64 kW and a 1.4-litre 76 kW S-TEC III engine, a five-speed manual or five-speed electronic manual, airbags, central locking, AUX/USB input and power steering as standard, and prices from 56,800 RMB. The Sail hatchback followed at the 2010 Auto China (about 3,947 mm long with up to 1,215 litres of trunk space), sharing the sedan's engines and transmissions, and the first new Sails were exported to Chile and Libya on 21 October 2010; it was also built in Bogotá and Quito, and in India (Halol, 2012–2017), where the Sail U-VA hatchback showed at the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo and launched on 2 November 2012 with a 1.2 S-TEC II petrol making 86 PS at 6,000 rpm and 113 N·m and a 1.3 Multijet (Smartech) turbodiesel DOHC making 78 PS at 4,000 rpm and 205 N·m, both with a 5-speed manual, before a sedan and hatchback Sail followed in four trims. The Springo EV (a 65 kW electric version shown in 2010 and 2012 with a claimed range of 130 km) does not wear a Chevrolet badge and is not entered. Latin NCAP gave the no-airbag, no-ABS, no-ESC Sail zero adult stars and two toddler stars in 2016. Wheelbase 97.0 in, width 66.5 in, height 59.2 in; length is 155.4 in (hatchback) or 167.3 in (sedan). The China 64 kW and 76 kW ratings are in kW only, so no horsepower is entered for them.

This Sail generation scored zero stars for adult occupants in a 2016 Latin NCAP crash test — a result so bad GM rebranded the next Sail as an Aveo in Mexico just to escape the association.

This Sail generation quietly spawned an electric twin, the Springo EV, good for up to 200 km of range at a steady 37 mph.

The humble Sail platform even spun off a postal van — Shanghai Auto's Saibao SAC6420 shared the Sail's 1.6-litre engine and five-speed gearbox, built in batches as small as 2,053 units a year.

It briefly served as senior sibling to Marquette, a GM companion brand cancelled after just one year.

Nissan hired former BMW engineers to help develop the 510's suspension, which is why period reviewers frequently compared its handling to the BMW 1600/2002.

A Trabant 601 won its class at the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, with a second 601 right behind it in second.

The 600 was a stopgap: the P50's body over the 601's mechanicals, and for a while its estate was built alongside the new 601 saloon.

The G80 Sport brought a 370 PS twin-turbo 3.3 V6, a mesh grille and copper-tinted chrome with copper stitching to match.

The Vigor was sold only with a five-cylinder engine, an unusual configuration Honda used to fit a longer engine transversely under a short hood.

The GS/E coupe earned the nickname "German Charger" for its long hood, short deck stance borrowed from Detroit muscle cars.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
