FactA 2007 Avalanche went to Michael Young, named MVP of the 2006 MLB All-Star Game, as his prize.
The second-generation Avalanche was introduced at the Chicago Auto Show in February 2006 on the GMT900 platform, with production at Silao, Mexico, from April 2006 for the 2007 to 2013 model years. It again combined the front-end styling of the Tahoe with the midgate and integrated bed of the previous model. Engines were 5.3 litre V8s, flex-fuel capable, and a 6.0 litre V8, with a four-speed automatic and from 2009 a six-speed.

Owning one

The Avalanche's clever midgate — folding the cab into the bed — was good enough that GM copied it straight onto the GMC Envoy XUV and Hummer H2 SUT.

First-year Avalanches wore light grey plastic cladding for the sole purpose of looking less like the Suburban they were built alongside.

Every Defender before this one was body-on-frame — this generation broke decades of tradition with an aluminium unibody structure instead.

Crashed on the passenger side instead of the driver's, the 2014 Forester showed far more intrusion and would have rated Marginal with the IIHS.

The L405 was the first Range Rover with a fully aluminum monocoque body, cutting up to 420 kg from the outgoing steel-bodied L322.

Rear passengers get a 17.3-inch screen that extends from the roof, and a lidar sensor sits in the front of the roof.

Its range-extender variant is rated for 1,200 km on a tank and charge, over three times the car's electric-only range.
