FactThe Q2 was marked for death years before it died: VW Group confirmed in 2022, with the car still on sale, that it would get no second generation at all.
The Audi Q2 is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV first unveiled on 1 March 2016 at the Geneva Motor Show on the Volkswagen Group MQB A1 platform (as the Mk7 Golf), built at Audi's Ingolstadt headquarters, by FAW-Volkswagen in Foshan (the long-wheelbase Q2L for China) and in Relizane, Algeria; designers Matthias Fink and Dre Ahn under Marc Lichte, 887,231 built (2016–April 2026). It has sold in Europe since November 2016 and, unlike Audi's other crossovers, is not sold in the United States or Canada; trim levels are SE, Sport, S line, Technik, Edition #1 and Black edition. In February 2022 Volkswagen AG confirmed there would be no second generation, due to poor sales and Audi's plans to sell larger premium crossovers. Engines: 1.0 TFSI three-cylinder, 1.4 TFSI COD (35 TFSI) and 2.0 TFSI petrol; 1.6 and 2.0 TDI diesel; 6-speed manual, 7-speed S tronic or 8-speed Tiptronic; quattro optional on the 1.4 TFSI and 2.0 TDI 150 PS. Wheelbase 2,601 mm (102.4 in), length 4,191 mm (165.0 in), width 1,794 mm (70.6 in), height 1,508 mm (59.4 in). The SQ2 and the Chinese Q2L e-tron are catalogued as their own generations.

The SQ2 was never going to get a sequel: Audi confirmed in 2022 that the whole Q2 line would end after this one generation, no second generation planned, after sales came in weak.

IIHS only crash-tests the driver's corner; tested on the passenger side instead, the CX-5 showed far worse intrusion.

Despite launching from a standing start in late 2025, the i60 topped GAC Aion's own sales chart through January's seasonal slowdown.

Every Defender before this one was body-on-frame — this generation broke decades of tradition with an aluminium unibody structure instead.

Crashed on the passenger side instead of the driver's, the 2014 Forester showed far more intrusion and would have rated Marginal with the IIHS.

Subaru built a 2.5XT for the National Ski Patrol with a diamond-plate floor, a 9,500-pound winch and a toboggan on the roof.

The L405 was the first Range Rover with a fully aluminum monocoque body, cutting up to 420 kg from the outgoing steel-bodied L322.

Its range-extender variant is rated for 1,200 km on a tank and charge, over three times the car's electric-only range.
