The Volkswagen Taigo is a subcompact crossover SUV (B-segment) with a sloping roofline, based on the Mk6 Polo on the Volkswagen Group MQB A0 platform. It was first released as the Volkswagen Nivus, unveiled in May 2020 in Brazil and launched in other South American markets in 2021, and came to Europe in July 2021 as the Taigo, positioned alongside the T-Cross in Europe. It shares its side doors, windshield, roof stamping, suspension setup and most interior parts with the Polo, while the fascia is completely redesigned and the hood raised; a new C-column stamping and rear parts give a boot of 415 litres, and the low-roof proportions allow it to be marketed as a "coupe crossover" alternative to the tall T-Cross. It is the first Volkswagen model developed in Brazil that is produced and sold in the European market, with production of the Taigo in the second half of 2021 at Pamplona, Spain. The European Taigo was released on 28 July 2021, with an R-Line variant as the flagship, and is available exclusively with front-wheel drive, as the MQB A0 platform does not support all-wheel drive.
