FactThis T-Roc was previewed as a concept car at Geneva in 2014, three years before the production version reached showrooms.
The Volkswagen T-Roc is a subcompact crossover SUV manufactured by Volkswagen, unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show and launched in November 2017. It is based on the Volkswagen Group MQB A1 platform, generally considered the SUV equivalent of the C-segment Golf, and is positioned between the Tiguan and the slightly smaller T-Cross while being approximately the same size as the less expensive Taigo. The T-Roc was previewed as a concept car with the same name at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, and the production version for the European market was launched in Italy on 23 August 2017 as Volkswagen's fourth SUV in the European market. It is closely related to the Golf Mk7, SEAT León Mk3, Audi A3 Mk3 and Škoda Octavia Mk3, with MacPherson strut front suspension and either a torsion beam or multi-link rear suspension, and European cars are assembled at the Autoeuropa plant in Palmela, Portugal. The Chinese version, built by FAW-Volkswagen in Foshan, was unveiled on 23 March 2018, went on sale on 30 July 2018 and is larger than the European one. The T-Roc was launched in India as a limited imported model in March 2020. The first-generation SUV was produced until November 2025; the second generation on the MQB Evo platform was presented on 27 August 2025.
