FactThe sixth-generation RAV4 drops the pure-gas engine entirely, the first RAV4 sold only as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid.
The sixth-generation RAV4 (XA60) was revealed on 20–21 May 2025 in Japan, Canada and the United States, and production began in late 2025 for the 2026 model year. It is the first RAV4 generation with a fully electrified lineup, offering either a fifth-generation hybrid or a sixth-generation plug-in hybrid drivetrain built around the 2.5-litre A25A-FXS four-cylinder. It rides on the TNGA GA-K platform carried over from the XA50, with added structural adhesive, braced suspension towers and revised sub-frames, and keeps the outgoing length and width. In China it is sold as the Toyota Wildlander, which also offers 2.0-litre petrol and hybrid versions, and Suzuki sells the plug-in hybrid in Europe as the Across.

The sixth-generation RAV4 drops the pure-gas engine entirely, the first RAV4 sold only as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid.

In China, this RAV4 generation doesn't even wear the RAV4 name — GAC Toyota sells it as the Toyota Wildlander instead, with its own front-end styling.

The fourth-gen RAV4 broke two long traditions at once: it swapped the side-hinged rear door and spare-tire mount for a plain liftgate, and dropped the V6 option entirely, going four-cylinder only.

This RAV4 generation quietly offered a third row for two extra passengers — a rarity in compact crossovers, and only in North America and Japan.

Survey data from 2003-2004 found the second-gen RAV4 had the highest share of female owners of nearly any vehicle on sale in the US, rivaled only by the VW New Beetle.

The original RAV4 briefly offered something almost unheard of before or since: a genuine soft-top, three-door convertible SUV.

Same body, same money, other badges — tap any card to flip.

IIHS only crash-tests the driver's corner; tested on the passenger side instead, the CX-5 showed far worse intrusion.

Despite launching from a standing start in late 2025, the i60 topped GAC Aion's own sales chart through January's seasonal slowdown.

Every Defender before this one was body-on-frame — this generation broke decades of tradition with an aluminium unibody structure instead.

Crashed on the passenger side instead of the driver's, the 2014 Forester showed far more intrusion and would have rated Marginal with the IIHS.

Subaru built a 2.5XT for the National Ski Patrol with a diamond-plate floor, a 9,500-pound winch and a toboggan on the roof.

The L405 was the first Range Rover with a fully aluminum monocoque body, cutting up to 420 kg from the outgoing steel-bodied L322.

Rear passengers get a 17.3-inch screen that extends from the roof, and a lidar sensor sits in the front of the roof.

Its range-extender variant is rated for 1,200 km on a tank and charge, over three times the car's electric-only range.
