FactSsangYong says the boxy Rexton Y400's design was actually inspired by the Parthenon — ancient Greek architecture informing a modern SUV's sheet metal.
The second-generation Rexton (Y400; also the G4 Rexton in South Korea and the Mahindra Alturas G4 in India 2018–2022, KGM Rexton from 2023) debuted at the 2017 Seoul Motor Show and at the 2017 Frankfurt show; it traces to the SsangYong LIV-1 concept and LIV-2 from Paris 2016, with a Parthenon-inspired design, a new body-on-frame platform in advanced high-strength steel shared with the Musso pick-up, safety driving equipment, increased towing capacity (up to 3,500 kg) and an electric parking brake with auto hold. It is offered with a 225 horsepower (168 kW; 228 PS) 2.0 L e-XGDI 200T petrol turbo or a 181 horsepower 2.2 L e-XDI 220 diesel, two-wheel or part-time four-wheel drive, with a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed Aisin automatic or a Mercedes 7G-Tronic (8-speed automatic after the facelift). The page gives no per-engine years.

SsangYong says the boxy Rexton Y400's design was actually inspired by the Parthenon — ancient Greek architecture informing a modern SUV's sheet metal.

This budget SUV has an unlikely design pedigree: the original Rexton was styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro's Italdesign, the studio behind some of Europe's most storied sports and luxury cars.
