Revealed in Prague on 11 November 2019 and delivered to customers from June 2020 as a liftback and estate on the Volkswagen Group MQB Evo platform shared with the Audi A3, SEAT León, Cupra Formentor and Golf Mk8. It is the first Škoda with a head-up display and adds two 10-inch displays, wireless smartphone charging, up to five USB-C ports, a Canton sound system and a small joystick in place of the automatic gearbox lever. The range includes the Octavia iV plug-in hybrid, the RS (245 PS), the G-Tec CNG/petrol version and a Scout; a lengthened liftback with the RS's styling is sold in China from 2021 as the Octavia Pro (64 mm longer, 44 mm longer wheelbase). A facelift was unveiled on 14 February 2024 with a new grille, bumpers and headlights, and more power for the RS. The Octavia Estate 1.4 TSI iV SE Technology was named Plug-in Hybrid of the Year by What Car? in January 2021.

This Octavia generation was the first Škoda ever fitted with a head-up display — alongside twin 10-inch screens, wireless charging and a joystick replacing the automatic's gear lever.

Its Chinese sibling, the Octavia Pro, is 64 mm longer than the European car, built purely to fatten rear legroom for the market that buys it.

This Octavia RS fakes its own engine note: a 'Performance Sound Generator' vibrates the windshield itself to pipe a sportier exhaust sound into the cabin.

This Octavia grew longer, wider and roomier than the car it replaced — yet somehow came in up to 102 kg lighter.

A modified Octavia RS once set a genuine world record: fastest 2.0-litre car on Earth, hitting 227mph at the Bonneville Speedway.

A Mk2 Octavia RS once held a world record: fastest production car in the world with an engine of two litres or less, hitting 227 mph at Bonneville in 2011.

In 2002 Škoda built just 100 Octavia RS 'WRC Replica' cars worldwide — white paint, rally decals, and rally-homage trim bolted onto an otherwise ordinary family hatchback.

Škoda quietly built a stretched, hand-built "Octavia L&K Long" for government use — only 25 were ever made, and the factory reportedly sold every one of them at a loss.

Japan was a minor market for the Swift: when it passed 2 million sales in 2011, about 39% were in India and 27% in Europe, against roughly 15% at home.

To adapt the Horizon for America, Chrysler bought nearly 100 Volkswagen Rabbits purely to reverse engineer them.

The Mk3 Focus RS's AWD system could send 100 percent of engine power to the rear wheels alone — built not in Ford's home country, but at the Saarlouis plant in Germany.

In June 2003, a Mégane II became the subject of the first ever live televised crash test with a real human driver at the wheel instead of a dummy — filmed by Top Gear.

This Wagon R redesigned its rear doors specifically to kill off the D-pillar — bigger doors with built-in quarter glass solved what earlier generations needed a whole extra pillar for.

Built to use up Chrysler-Simca's parts bin, it took its engine and gearbox straight from the front-wheel-drive Simca 1100 but mounted them amidships instead.
