The first-generation Renault Captur, a subcompact crossover on the B platform shared with the fourth-generation Clio, designed under Laurens van den Acker. The production version debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and went on sale in France in April 2013, two years after the Captur Concept was shown at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. The suspension is MacPherson struts at the front and a twist-beam axle at the rear, with disc brakes at the front and drums at the rear, and there is a large drawer-like glovebox. Engines are the 0.9-litre H4Bt turbo three-cylinder, the 1.2 and 1.3-litre turbo fours and the 1.5-litre K9K diesel, with a five-speed manual or six-speed Getrag EDC automatic. It was built in Valladolid, Spain, and in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It won What Car? 2014 Best Small SUV under £16,000, was named Voiture de l'Année 2013 by the French motoring press and earned five stars at Euro NCAP in 2013. Renault Samsung sold it in South Korea as the QM3 with a single dCi 90 diesel and a dual-clutch gearbox, and 24,560 registrations in 2015 made it the country's best-selling imported car.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

Renault renamed this car entirely for one market: in Russia and the CIS it became the 'Kaptur' because 'Captur' was simply too hard to pronounce correctly in Russian.

Every Defender before this one was body-on-frame — this generation broke decades of tradition with an aluminium unibody structure instead.

Crashed on the passenger side instead of the driver's, the 2014 Forester showed far more intrusion and would have rated Marginal with the IIHS.
