FactPolice orders, including the Michigan State Police, made it 1980's best-selling R-body car, and it was the last true full-size Plymouth.
When Chrysler's downsized R-body cars arrived for 1979 there was no Plymouth version, but demand for a full-size Plymouth brought the Gran Fury back in 1980 after a two-year absence, as a pillared hardtop sedan related to the Chrysler Newport and Dodge St. Regis. It offered a 3.7 litre Slant Six and 5.2 and 5.9 litre LA V8s with three-speed automatics, for 1980 and 1981.

Even police departments' hottest Gran Fury couldn't keep up with a hot hatch: its strongest police-spec V8 ran the quarter mile in 18.16 seconds, slower than a 90-hp Volkswagen Rabbit GTI.

This M-body Gran Fury became a favored American police package car, still ordered by departments into the late 1980s alongside the newer Caprice.

Police orders, including the Michigan State Police, made it 1980's best-selling R-body car, and it was the last true full-size Plymouth.

It was the big Fury renamed: for 1975 Plymouth gave the Fury name to its restyled mid-size Satellite, so the full-size car became the Gran Fury.

Nissan hired former BMW engineers to help develop the 510's suspension, which is why period reviewers frequently compared its handling to the BMW 1600/2002.

A Trabant 601 won its class at the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, with a second 601 right behind it in second.

The 600 was a stopgap: the P50's body over the 601's mechanicals, and for a while its estate was built alongside the new 601 saloon.

The G80 Sport brought a 370 PS twin-turbo 3.3 V6, a mesh grille and copper-tinted chrome with copper stitching to match.

The Vigor was sold only with a five-cylinder engine, an unusual configuration Honda used to fit a longer engine transversely under a short hood.

The GS/E coupe earned the nickname "German Charger" for its long hood, short deck stance borrowed from Detroit muscle cars.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
