The first-generation Peugeot 5008 was unveiled in July 2009 and officially went on sale in November 2009. Its introduction coincided with the promotion of Peugeot design director Gilles Vidal, whose influence was already beginning to show in the firm's models. It shares its core structure and mechanical components with the first-generation Peugeot 3008 on the PSA PF2 platform, is related to the Citroën C4 and C4 Picasso, and was built at Sochaux, France and in Malaysia as a five-door MPV. It was awarded 2010 MPV of the Year by What Car? magazine, and earned a five-star rating in the 2009 Euro NCAP tests.
