The second-generation Peugeot 408 (T9), unveiled at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show and built at Wuhan, Gurun (2016–2018) and Semnan (Iran, as the FMC P4), sits on the PSA EMP2 platform, related to the 308, with a 6-speed automatic (a 6-speed manual for the 1.8 and 1.2 in China); the international 408 e-THP launched in Malaysia in June 2016 with one engine and transmission. China's range was a 1.8-litre making 139 hp, a 1.2-litre turbo making 136 hp and a 1.6-litre turbo making 167 hp; the infobox also lists the 1.2 VTi three-cylinder and 1.8 EW7 CVVT (both 2014–2017) and 1.5 THP and 1.6 EP6FDTM Prince turbo fours. A first facelift arrived in 2018 (new front and rear, powertrains carried over) and a second for China on 8 June 2022 with the third-generation 308's face, all trims getting the 5G06 1.6 turbo (125 kW at 5500 rpm, 250 Nm) and an Aisin 6AT, and from March 2024 the 1.5 THP 360 (127 kW, 255 Nm); the Dongfeng Fukang ES600 is an electric sedan based on the pre-facelift car. Wheelbase 2,730 mm (107.5 in), length 4,750 mm (187.0 in), width 1,820 mm (71.7 in), height 1,488 mm (58.6 in), curb weight 1,420 kg.

Development of the 408 took seven years, a project managed by Aurélie Bresson due to the car's radical concept.

A Peugeot is hiding under a completely different badge in China: the Dongfeng Fukang ES600 is an electric sedan built straight off the pre-facelift Peugeot 408's bones.

The name promises a bigger car than the 407, but this 408 is really a stretched-wheelbase 308 hatchback in a saloon suit, built for buyers in China and other emerging markets who read 'higher number' as 'more premium.'

It briefly served as senior sibling to Marquette, a GM companion brand cancelled after just one year.

Nissan hired former BMW engineers to help develop the 510's suspension, which is why period reviewers frequently compared its handling to the BMW 1600/2002.

A Trabant 601 won its class at the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, with a second 601 right behind it in second.

The 600 was a stopgap: the P50's body over the 601's mechanicals, and for a while its estate was built alongside the new 601 saloon.

The G80 Sport brought a 370 PS twin-turbo 3.3 V6, a mesh grille and copper-tinted chrome with copper stitching to match.

The Vigor was sold only with a five-cylinder engine, an unusual configuration Honda used to fit a longer engine transversely under a short hood.

The GS/E coupe earned the nickname "German Charger" for its long hood, short deck stance borrowed from Detroit muscle cars.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
