The Peugeot 408 is a compact saloon produced by Peugeot since 2010, unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show on 25 January 2010 (sales in China from 8 April 2010; production in Argentina from November 2010, sales from April 2011), not a direct successor to the 407 but a long-wheelbase saloon version of the 308 hatchback for emerging markets such as China, and not sold or built in Europe. The first generation (T7) was built at El Palomar (Argentina), Wuhan (DPCA), Gurun (Malaysia) and Kaluga (Russia) on the PSA PF2 platform, related to the Dongfeng Fengshen L60. In China it had a 1.6 (TU5JP4, 1587 cc, 115 PS, 147 N·m) or 2.0 petrol four (EW10A+, 1997 cc, 150 PS, 200 N·m) with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic; South America got a 1.6 HDi diesel (1560 cc, 110 PS, 240 N·m, top speed 188 km/h, 0–100 km/h in 12.4 s) alongside the 2.0 petrol and the 1.6 THP (Sport), with a 6-speed automatic; Malaysia had the 1.6 Prince turbo (167 PS, 240 N·m from 1,400 rpm, 6-speed manual) and the 2.0 (145 bhp), production in Argentina stopping in 2021. Wheelbase 2,710 mm (106.7 in), length 4,680 mm (184.3 in), width 1,815 mm (71.5 in), height 1,525 mm (60.0 in).

Development of the 408 took seven years, a project managed by Aurélie Bresson due to the car's radical concept.

A Peugeot is hiding under a completely different badge in China: the Dongfeng Fukang ES600 is an electric sedan built straight off the pre-facelift Peugeot 408's bones.

It briefly served as senior sibling to Marquette, a GM companion brand cancelled after just one year.

Nissan hired former BMW engineers to help develop the 510's suspension, which is why period reviewers frequently compared its handling to the BMW 1600/2002.

A Trabant 601 won its class at the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, with a second 601 right behind it in second.

The 600 was a stopgap: the P50's body over the 601's mechanicals, and for a while its estate was built alongside the new 601 saloon.

The G80 Sport brought a 370 PS twin-turbo 3.3 V6, a mesh grille and copper-tinted chrome with copper stitching to match.

The Vigor was sold only with a five-cylinder engine, an unusual configuration Honda used to fit a longer engine transversely under a short hood.

The GS/E coupe earned the nickname "German Charger" for its long hood, short deck stance borrowed from Detroit muscle cars.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
