The second-generation Zafira debuted in Europe on 12 February 2005 with sales from 9 June 2005, sharing its T platform and mechanicals with the Astra H, and built at Bochum, Gliwice and (2012-14) Kaliningrad, also as the Vauxhall Zafira, Chevrolet Zafira and, from 2011-14, the cheaper Opel Zafira Family. Engines ran from the 1.6 TwinPort and 1.8 VVT petrols to a 200 PS 2.0 Turbo and a 240 PS OPC version, and 1.7 and 1.9 CDTI diesels. It became notorious in the UK for fires attributed to an unreliable fan resistor pack and improper repairs, prompting alerts from the London Fire Brigade in November 2015, two recalls (December 2015 and May 2016) and a criminal investigation launched on 3 May 2018 into Vauxhall's handling; a fire in a Zafira wrecked 200-300 cars in a parking garage at Stavanger Airport in January 2020.
