The third-generation Qashqai was announced and released on 18 February 2021. It is slightly larger than before, 35 mm longer, 32 mm wider and 25 mm taller with a wheelbase 20 mm longer, and is based on the CMF-CD platform shared with the Nissan Rogue / X-Trail (T33) and the Renault Austral. From this generation Nissan stopped using the Rogue Sport name in the United States, reverting to Qashqai globally. The bonnet, front fenders and doors are made of aluminium and are 21 kg lighter, and the tailgate is a composite. It is built in Sunderland, UK, with production in Dalian, China from May 2023 to 2026, and is offered with a 1.3-litre turbo petrol with 12-volt mild-hybrid assistance in 140 PS and 159 PS forms, and the series-hybrid e-Power with 159 PS.

Built at Nissan's Sunderland plant, the J11 Qashqai hit its 500,000th unit in September 2015 — the fastest any UK-built car has ever reached that mark.

Nissan nearly sold the Qashqai under a different name altogether in Australia — they worried "Qashqai" would be heard as "cash cow."

Every Defender before this one was body-on-frame — this generation broke decades of tradition with an aluminium unibody structure instead.

Crashed on the passenger side instead of the driver's, the 2014 Forester showed far more intrusion and would have rated Marginal with the IIHS.
