The first-generation Qashqai (J10) was first unveiled as a concept vehicle at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show and globally presented at the 2006 Paris Motor Show, going on sale in February 2007 with the codename P32L. It slots below the X-Trail and partially replaces the Primera and Almera, and was the first model styled by Nissan Design Europe in London, with engineering led by Nissan Technical Centre Europe in Cranfield. Built at the Sunderland plant in the UK from December 2006, it sold more than 1.24 million units in Europe in its seven-year production run, and in Australia and Japan it carried the name Dualis because Nissan worried Qashqai could be pronounced "cash cow". The seven-seat Qashqai+2 began production in July 2008 with a 135 mm longer wheelbase, and was replaced by the T32 X-Trail in 2013. A refreshed version was announced in December 2009 and went on sale in March 2010.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

The e-Power Qashqai's gas engine never touches the wheels — it only generates electricity, making this SUV a true series hybrid under its crossover skin.

Built at Nissan's Sunderland plant, the J11 Qashqai hit its 500,000th unit in September 2015 — the fastest any UK-built car has ever reached that mark.

Every Defender before this one was body-on-frame — this generation broke decades of tradition with an aluminium unibody structure instead.

Crashed on the passenger side instead of the driver's, the 2014 Forester showed far more intrusion and would have rated Marginal with the IIHS.
