The second-generation Note (E12), sold as the Nissan Versa Note in North America, was previewed by the Invitation Concept shown at the 82nd Geneva Motor Show in 2012, a hatchback concept on the Nissan V platform designed to be sold alongside the Micra and Juke. Production ran from August 2012 to December 2020 in Japan, with production in Sunderland, UK until 2017, Mexico and Thailand. The Japanese Note is manufactured at Nissan Motor Kyushu, and European models were developed at Nissan Technical Centre Europe. Nismo and Nismo S sporting variants were released in October 2014, and on 24 October 2016 Nissan revealed the facelifted 2017 model year Note with the e-Power series hybrid, in which a small 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine only charges the battery and an electric traction motor is the sole source of traction with no plug-in capability.
