The third-generation Toppo, the Toppo BJ ("Big Joy"), was sold from October 1998 to 2004 (a model replaced by the eK in 2001 but sold alongside it until 2004), on a 2,340 mm wheelbase with 657 cc 3G83, 659 cc 4A30 (SOHC or DOHC) and 1,094 cc 4A31 engines. A non-kei larger derivative, the Toppo BJ Wide, with enlarged bumpers, a 1.1-litre engine and five seats instead of four, was produced from January 1999 until March 2001.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

When Mitsubishi revived the Toppo name in 2008, it didn't design a new body. It reused third-generation door panels and sheet metal, bolted onto the underpinnings of the second-generation eK Wagon.

This Toppo's passenger door is deliberately longer than the driver's door — a lopsided body built specifically so rear passengers climb out on the safer curb side.

Partway through this generation, Mitsubishi rolled out a deliberately retro-styled version, the Minica Toppo Town Bee — different enough from the standard car to earn its own name.

Mitsubishi built this Toppo's passenger door longer than the driver's, a small asymmetry meant to make rear-seat entry safer.

The Fiat 500L has a genuine claim to fame beyond its looks: it was the first production car anywhere to offer a built-in espresso machine as an option.

Fiat built every 500L in Serbia, at Kragujevac, and still sold half a million of them worldwide by early 2018.
