FactThe Ioniq 5's styling traces to the original 1975 Hyundai Pony, the company's first car.
The Ioniq 5 is a battery electric compact crossover developed under the project code NE, the first model on Hyundai's Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and the first of the Ioniq sub-brand. It was presented on 23 February 2021, with a design inspired by the original Hyundai Pony, and is built in Ulsan and, for the United States from 2024, at the Metaplant in Georgia. A facelift revealed on 3 March 2024 raised the long-range battery from 77.4 to 84 kWh; an off-road XRT followed for the 2025 model year. The high-performance Ioniq 5 N is a separate model.
