The fifth generation of the Ford Fiesta spawned two sedans, in India and in Brazil, both marketed under the Fiesta name in their countries of origin but exported in some markets as the new Ford Ikon (South Africa and Mexico). In India the new Fiesta was launched in October 2005 as a sedan only, with an exterior different from the European model, and the same car was released in South Africa as the new Ikon in September 2007, powered by a 1.4- or 1.6-litre petrol engine (both double overhead camshaft, four valves per cylinder) or a 1.4-litre common-rail turbodiesel, all with a five-speed manual gearbox; it was facelifted in June 2008 (February 2009 in South Africa) with a revised front end, 15-inch alloys and a 430-litre boot: 2,486 mm (97.9 in) wheelbase, 4,282 mm (168.6 in) length, 1,686 mm (66.4 in) width, 1,458 mm (57.4 in) height. In Brazil the sedan version of the fifth-generation Fiesta was introduced in September 2004 (marketed in South America as the Fiesta Sedan, facelifted in January 2007 and April 2010); the April 2010 facelift was introduced in Mexico as the new Ford Ikon, powered by a 1.6-litre single-overhead-camshaft petrol with 95 hp (71 kW) and a five-speed manual, retired in Mexico in February 2012. The Ikon Hatch sold in Mexico from a year later is the India-built Ford Figo, catalogued separately.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

Ford once drew up a seven-seat estate version of the Ikon sedan, starting development in 1998. A prototype was shown in 1999 — then quietly cancelled when the packaging made the proportions impossible to fix.

It briefly served as senior sibling to Marquette, a GM companion brand cancelled after just one year.

Nissan hired former BMW engineers to help develop the 510's suspension, which is why period reviewers frequently compared its handling to the BMW 1600/2002.

A Trabant 601 won its class at the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, with a second 601 right behind it in second.

The 600 was a stopgap: the P50's body over the 601's mechanicals, and for a while its estate was built alongside the new 601 saloon.

The G80 Sport brought a 370 PS twin-turbo 3.3 V6, a mesh grille and copper-tinted chrome with copper stitching to match.

The Vigor was sold only with a five-cylinder engine, an unusual configuration Honda used to fit a longer engine transversely under a short hood.

The GS/E coupe earned the nickname "German Charger" for its long hood, short deck stance borrowed from Detroit muscle cars.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
