The fifth-generation Ford Expedition (model code U717) was revealed on October 3, 2024, and production began on January 6, 2025 at Kentucky Truck Assembly in Louisville for the 2025 model year. It rides on the Ford T3 platform shared with the F-150 and Lincoln Navigator, in standard and long-wheelbase MAX lengths. Every version uses a 3.5-litre EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 and a 10-speed automatic; the off-road Tremor gets a high-output version of the engine, also optional on the Platinum. New features include the Ford Split Gate tailgate, a 24-inch panoramic display and a 13.2-inch central touchscreen.

One engineer, Jackie Marshall DiMarco, ran chief-engineer duty on this Expedition and the F-150 pickup at the very same time.

The first third-gen Expedition off the line in 2007 wasn't sold — Ford gave it away on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," months before it hit showrooms.

It was the first full-size SUV with fully independent suspension, a purpose-built version of the long-travel suspensions on desert off-road race trucks.

The Expedition was Ford's answer to the Chevrolet Tahoe and was built at the Michigan Truck Plant alongside the Lincoln Navigator.
