The LH cars were redesigned for the 1998 model year, the Intrepid designed by Robert Boniface and built in Brampton, Ontario, from September 1997 to August 2003. New all-aluminium engines replaced the old ones: a 200 hp DOHC 2.7 litre V6 for base models and a 225 hp SOHC 3.2 litre V6 for the ES. A top R/T model arrived for 1999 with a redesigned 3.5 litre V6 of 242 hp, which also went into the ES at 234 hp. All had a four-speed automatic and front-wheel drive.

The Intrepid was one of the original 1993 Chrysler 'cab-forward' LH-platform sedans designed with the front wheels pushed toward the front bumper to maximize interior space.

Every Intrepid came with dual airbags and a four-speed automatic in 1993, when both were still rare on mainstream sedans.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
