FactThe very last car to ever roll off the line at Detroit’s legendary Dodge Main Assembly plant was a Silver Metallic Aspen R/T, before the factory closed that same day.
The Dodge Aspen R/T (like the Plymouth Volaré Road Runner) was the "performance" trim level of the model, available only on two-door coupés, with E70x14 tires, "rallye" wheels, a grille blackout treatment, body striping and identifying decals and medallions (mostly trim items and heavy-duty suspension); for 1977 the Aspen R/T added a "Super Pak" option of front and rear spoilers, wheel opening flares and louvered rear windows. A 360 cu in (5.9 L) V8 option was offered with 170 hp (127 kW) and 280 lb·ft (380 N·m) of torque (unavailable in California because the engine, which averaged 15.2 mpg (US), did not meet California fuel economy regulations); a Motor Trend road test of an Aspen R/T with this engine turned a standing quarter mile at 17.4 seconds at 86.1 mph and a 60 to 95 mph run in 13.8 seconds. The 225 Slant 6 and both the 318 and 360 LA V8s were not available with the four-speed overdrive transmission, only the Model 727 three-speed automatic. The R/T package was installed on 285 Aspens in 1980, and the last car built at Dodge Main Assembly, on 4 January 1980, was a Silver Metallic 1980 Aspen R/T, the 285th of that year.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

Dodge built just 531 Aspen Super Coupes for 1978, each one forced into the same dark-brown paint with matte-black fenders and roof, no other color was offered.

A handful of 1976 Dodge Aspens ran gas turbine engines instead of V8s, as US Department of Energy test mules chasing cleaner, more efficient propulsion.

It briefly served as senior sibling to Marquette, a GM companion brand cancelled after just one year.

Nissan hired former BMW engineers to help develop the 510's suspension, which is why period reviewers frequently compared its handling to the BMW 1600/2002.

A Trabant 601 won its class at the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, with a second 601 right behind it in second.

The 600 was a stopgap: the P50's body over the 601's mechanicals, and for a while its estate was built alongside the new 601 saloon.

The G80 Sport brought a 370 PS twin-turbo 3.3 V6, a mesh grille and copper-tinted chrome with copper stitching to match.

The Vigor was sold only with a five-cylinder engine, an unusual configuration Honda used to fit a longer engine transversely under a short hood.

The GS/E coupe earned the nickname "German Charger" for its long hood, short deck stance borrowed from Detroit muscle cars.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
