FactLaunched in Japan in July 2011, the first new GM model sold there since the company's 2009 Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization.
The first-generation Chevrolet Captiva was developed by GM Korea on the GM Theta platform, shared with the Opel Antara, and derived from the 2004 Chevrolet S3X concept; Daewoo designated it C100 and Holden CG. Launched in 2006, it was also sold as the Daewoo Winstorm and the Holden Captiva, and built in South Korea, Thailand, China, India, Russia, Uzbekistan and elsewhere until 2018. It was front- or all-wheel drive with five or seven seats. Engines were 2.4 litre petrol fours, the Australian-built 3.2 Alloytec V6 and later a 3.0 V6, and 2.0 and 2.2 litre VCDi turbo-diesels.

Owning one
An estimate, for the 2.0 VCDi diesel trim: fuel on its EPA figure and a dated national price, upkeep on a per-mile average for the kind of car it is.

When Chevrolet refreshed the Captiva's face, it borrowed styling cues from the much smaller Aveo subcompact, not another SUV.

Every Defender before this one was body-on-frame — this generation broke decades of tradition with an aluminium unibody structure instead.
