FactThe Fluence exists because Renault killed the Megane's notchback sedan in 2008, then had to plug the hole it left across Europe.
The Renault Fluence is a compact sedan produced by Renault, in Europe until 2016 at the Oyak-Renault plant in Bursa, Turkey, and until the end of 2018 at Santa Isabel, Argentina, for the Latin American market. It is based on the Renault/Nissan C platform, revealed in August 2009 and sized between the compact family saloon C segment and the upper medium segment. The Mégane range featured a "three box" notchback sedan variant until the end of 2008, but it was never a big seller and when the Mégane III was introduced at the end of that year there was no notchback version, so the gap in markets such as France, Italy, Belgium, Ireland and, from August 2010, Germany was filled by the Fluence. It is also badged as the Renault Samsung SM3, first presented at the Seoul Motor Show in April 2009 with the rebadged Fluence going on sale in November 2009. It was first offered with two petrol engines, a 1.6 litre 110 hp and a two-litre 140 hp that can get an optional CVT, and a 1.5 litre dCi diesel offered in 85, 90, 105 and 110 hp versions with a diesel particulate filter, the 110 hp version fitted with Renault's dual clutch EDC transmission. A Renault Sport version, the Fluence GT with a 2.0 litre 180 hp TCe 180 and a 6-speed manual gearbox, was offered in Argentina and Brazil. The Fluence was facelifted in 2012, unveiled at the Istanbul Motor Show, and again in 2015 with a new rear light cluster with LED brake lights, and on 12 July 2016 Renault unveiled its successor for Europe, the Mégane Sedan IV.

It briefly served as senior sibling to Marquette, a GM companion brand cancelled after just one year.

Nissan hired former BMW engineers to help develop the 510's suspension, which is why period reviewers frequently compared its handling to the BMW 1600/2002.

A Trabant 601 won its class at the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, with a second 601 right behind it in second.

The 600 was a stopgap: the P50's body over the 601's mechanicals, and for a while its estate was built alongside the new 601 saloon.

The G80 Sport brought a 370 PS twin-turbo 3.3 V6, a mesh grille and copper-tinted chrome with copper stitching to match.

The Vigor was sold only with a five-cylinder engine, an unusual configuration Honda used to fit a longer engine transversely under a short hood.

The GS/E coupe earned the nickname "German Charger" for its long hood, short deck stance borrowed from Detroit muscle cars.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
