The second-generation 308 was unveiled on 13 May 2013, with updated style along with the 508 and the 208, and was displayed at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. It is built on the PSA EMP2 platform shared with the Citroën C4 Picasso, which brought a 140 kg (310 lb) weight loss compared to the previous generation, and was built at Mulhouse and Sochaux in France, and in Wuhan, China and Malaysia. Peugeot changed its numbering so that the final digit is fixed: 8 for the mainstream range and 1 for models aimed at emerging countries, such as the 301. The 308 GTi by Peugeot Sport featured engines producing 250 hp and 270 hp; the 270 hp version adds 380 mm Alcon front brakes, a Torsen limited-slip differential and 19-inch alloy wheels. A 1.5 HDi with 130 bhp joined from September 2017, a revised 308 was announced in July 2020, and production ended in May 2021. It was awarded European Car of the Year in March 2014.

We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

This 308 made quiet history: it's the very first Peugeot ever built wearing the brand's redesigned lion logo.

The T9's new EMP2 platform did something cars rarely do on a redesign: it shed 140kg against the old 308 — about the weight of an extra passenger, gone.

Peugeot never re-engineered the 308's wiper sweep for right-hand drive — so in the UK and Australia, the driver's own side of the windscreen was the one left with an unwiped patch.
Rivals
Same body, same money, other badges — tap any card to flip.

Japan was a minor market for the Swift: when it passed 2 million sales in 2011, about 39% were in India and 27% in Europe, against roughly 15% at home.

To adapt the Horizon for America, Chrysler bought nearly 100 Volkswagen Rabbits purely to reverse engineer them.

The Mk3 Focus RS's AWD system could send 100 percent of engine power to the rear wheels alone — built not in Ford's home country, but at the Saarlouis plant in Germany.

In June 2003, a Mégane II became the subject of the first ever live televised crash test with a real human driver at the wheel instead of a dummy — filmed by Top Gear.

This Wagon R redesigned its rear doors specifically to kill off the D-pillar — bigger doors with built-in quarter glass solved what earlier generations needed a whole extra pillar for.

The BX was the UK's best-selling diesel car for four years from 1987, and 2,315,739 were built in all.

Six months before Suzuki retired the Fronte name for good, the CN11S's 796cc version was already being built in China under a completely different name: the Anchi 6330.

Built to use up Chrysler-Simca's parts bin, it took its engine and gearbox straight from the front-wheel-drive Simca 1100 but mounted them amidships instead.
