FactThis Iranian family car has worn three different names — Persia, then Safir, then Pars — each change forced by copyright disputes rather than a marketing refresh.
The Peugeot Pars (earlier Peugeot Persia and Peugeot Safir; also Khazar 406 in Azerbaijan) is a passenger car produced by Iran Khodro (IKCO) from 2000 to 2024 in Tehran (to 2023) and elsewhere (Azerbaijan, Egypt, Iraq, Senegal): after ten years of making the Peugeot 405 in Iran, Peugeot designed the Persia as its facelift, with a 406-like front end, renamed Safir and eventually Pars because of local copyright problems. It is a front-wheel-drive four-door saloon on the Peugeot 405 platform, related to the Samand, Dena and Arisun. The initial Pars (early 2000) had the 1.8-liter 8-valve SOHC XU7JP/L3 engine (100 PS and 153 N·m, 113 lb·ft; a later section gives it as 101 PS at 6000 rpm, so no power is entered), replaced by the XU7P engine in 2022; the Pars LX used the 1.6 TU5JP4 16-valve DOHC engine (109 PS at 5800 rpm, 142 N·m / 105 lb·ft at 4000 rpm), the 16V (Q2 2003 to Q1 2004, though IKCO's site says still built in 2009) and upmarket ELX used the 1.8 XU7JP4 16-valve DOHC (109 bhp at 5500 rpm), IKCO later fitting the 1.9 (or 2.0) XUM 8-valve to the ELX (105 hp, stopped in 2017) and in 2022 a revived ELX with the 1.8 XU7+ or 1.6 TU5. The Pars Sal update of 2014 had a redesigned dashboard, the CNG/BiFuel version ended in 2021, a mid-2000s "Parsian" facelift and a July 2023 facelift were never sold. The ELX brings a smart cluster, Persian telematics, ABS/EBD four-disc brakes, Recaro seats and alloys.

It briefly served as senior sibling to Marquette, a GM companion brand cancelled after just one year.

Nissan hired former BMW engineers to help develop the 510's suspension, which is why period reviewers frequently compared its handling to the BMW 1600/2002.

A Trabant 601 won its class at the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, with a second 601 right behind it in second.

The 600 was a stopgap: the P50's body over the 601's mechanicals, and for a while its estate was built alongside the new 601 saloon.

The G80 Sport brought a 370 PS twin-turbo 3.3 V6, a mesh grille and copper-tinted chrome with copper stitching to match.

The Vigor was sold only with a five-cylinder engine, an unusual configuration Honda used to fit a longer engine transversely under a short hood.

The GS/E coupe earned the nickname "German Charger" for its long hood, short deck stance borrowed from Detroit muscle cars.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
