FactIn Australia this Insignia became the last Holden Commodore, closing out the nameplate as the Holden brand itself ended in 2020.
First leaked in December 2016 and shown at the March 2017 Geneva Motor Show (styled by Niels Loeb, with cues from the 2013 Opel Monza concept), the second Insignia dropped the notchback saloon for a five-door liftback and an estate on the new E2XX platform shared with the Chevrolet Malibu and Cadillac XT4. It is built at Rüsselsheim (and in Shanghai, where production continues) and was sold as the Buick Regal and, in Australia and New Zealand, as the Holden Commodore (ZB), an all-wheel-drive-V6 or front-wheel-drive-four that ended with the Holden brand in 2020. Engines are 1.5 turbo petrols of 140 and 165 PS, a 260 PS 2.0 turbo, the 320 PS 3.6 V6 for the Regal GS and Commodore, 1.5 three-cylinder and 1.6 fours, a 170 PS 2.0 CDTI and a 210 PS 2.0 BiTurbo 4x4, with an eight-speed automatic and a nine-speed ZF 9HP (Grandsport).

Opel put a 2.8-litre turbo V6 and all-wheel drive into the Insignia, a family saloon making 325 PS.

Its name came from a 2003 Opel concept car, years before any production Insignia existed.

It briefly served as senior sibling to Marquette, a GM companion brand cancelled after just one year.

Nissan hired former BMW engineers to help develop the 510's suspension, which is why period reviewers frequently compared its handling to the BMW 1600/2002.

A Trabant 601 won its class at the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, with a second 601 right behind it in second.

The 600 was a stopgap: the P50's body over the 601's mechanicals, and for a while its estate was built alongside the new 601 saloon.

The G80 Sport brought a 370 PS twin-turbo 3.3 V6, a mesh grille and copper-tinted chrome with copper stitching to match.

The Vigor was sold only with a five-cylinder engine, an unusual configuration Honda used to fit a longer engine transversely under a short hood.

The GS/E coupe earned the nickname "German Charger" for its long hood, short deck stance borrowed from Detroit muscle cars.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
