The Nismo Z-tune was built for Nismo's 20th anniversary, after R34 production had ended. Nismo bought used R34 GT-Rs with under 30,000 km and no accident history and rebuilt each by hand from a bare shell, with seam welding, carbon-fibre reinforcement, Sachs suspension and Brembo brakes. The "Z2" engine, a 2.8-litre stroked and bored RB26 proven at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, is rated at 493 hp and 398 lb-ft; Nismo claimed 0–100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and a 10.06-second quarter mile. Nismo planned 20 but stopped at 19, including the prototype and two preserved cars; 17 were painted Z-tune Silver.
