FactMitsubishi expected to sell 10,000 a month; dealers moved 13,000 in the first four days.
The first-generation Mitsubishi eK was available as the eK Wagon (introduced on 11 October 2001), the eK Sport (2 September 2002), the eK Classy (26 May 2003) or the eK Active (25 May 2004), and was also sold by Nissan as the Otti. The eK Wagon was released in a simplified lineup, in only a single model (M) with an available package (M+X) including alloy wheels and some other cosmetics, and it was only available with the 3G83 naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine with 50 PS; other models later added the option of a turbocharged version with 64 PS. The standard transmission was a three-speed automatic with a column shift, later a four-speed version was added, while some models could also be fitted with a five-speed manual, and most models could be had with either front- or four-wheel drive. Immediately upon its release it received the Good Design Award from the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in 2001; the initial sales target was 10,000 units per month, but it sold 13,000 in its first four days.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.
