The first-generation Eclipse Cross was previewed by the XR-PHEV concepts of 2013 and 2015, introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017 and built since October 2017 on Mitsubishi's GS platform, shared with the RVR/ASX/Outlander Sport and the third-generation Outlander. It reached Japan, Australia and North America at the start of 2018. Engines are a 1.5-litre turbo petrol, a 2.0-litre petrol, a 2.2-litre diesel from June 2019 (not in North America) and a 2.4-litre plug-in hybrid from December 2020, with front- or four-wheel drive, and the body was lengthened from 2021. Since 2025 Europe has instead received a second-generation battery electric Eclipse Cross based on the Renault Scénic E-Tech.
