FactThe Marauder fastback borrowed its roofline from the Ford Galaxie 500 SportsRoof to chase the Toronado and Riviera crowd.
For 1969 and 1970 the Mercury Marauder made its return, unofficially replacing the S-55. Designed as a competitor for the Oldsmobile Toronado and Buick Riviera, the Marauder was a fastback coupe combining the front bodywork of the Marquis with the roofline of the Ford XL / Galaxie 500 SportsRoof; along with the Colony Park, it was built on the 121-inch wheelbase used by Ford, on the rear-wheel drive perimeter frame chassis shared with the full-size Ford range. The Marauder fastback was dropped for the 1971 model year. The Marquis page gives no engine or performance figures for the Marauder.
