FactMercedes called this the first true premium pickup, ignoring that Lincoln and Cadillac had already tried the same trick with the Blackwood and Escalade EXT.
The Mercedes-Benz X-Class (W470) is a mid-size pickup truck sold from 2017 to 2020, based on the D23 Nissan Navara (on the Nissan F-Alpha platform shared with the Renault Alaskan) with Mercedes-specific features and technologies and the Mercedes-Benz Musso Sports as its predecessor. Announced in 2015 as a pickup developed with the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, shown as the X-Class Concept on 25 October 2016, and unveiled in a world premiere in Cape Town in July 2017, it was assembled at Nissan's plant in Barcelona (a planned build at the Renault plant in Santa Isabel, Argentina was cancelled after contractual disputes). Mercedes called it the world's first true "premium" pickup, though it followed the Lincoln Blackwood and Mark LT and the Cadillac Escalade EXT; it launched in Pure, Progressive and Power trims and scored 90% for adult occupants in Euro NCAP. Engines are a 2.3-litre OM699 four-cylinder diesel in X220d (163 PS) and X250d (190 PS, twin-turbo) form and the 3.0-litre OM642 V6 turbodiesel X350d (258 PS, with the 4Matic permanent all-wheel drive system), with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic. Sales were slow — 16,700 in 2018 and about 15,300 in 2019 — because many customers expected an all-new Mercedes and saw an expensive rebadged Navara, and production was halted in May 2020.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

The GMT400 split the twins for good: 1988 was the year "C/K" became Chevrolet-only badging, while GMC's version of the very same truck became the Sierra.

GMC found 10 extra horsepower in the Sierra All Terrain X's 5.3L V8 with nothing more than a performance exhaust, no other changes needed to go from 355 to 365 hp.

This Sierra kept rolling off the line for a full extra year after its replacement arrived - badged "Classic" in 2007 just to tell the two generations apart on dealer lots.

When this GMT900 Sierra launched for 2007, GM kept selling the outgoing truck alongside it, badged "Classic," so buyers could choose old or new side by side on the same lot.

Toyota showed it as the T150 until Ford sued over the likeness to the F-150, and the production truck was renamed Tundra.

A Louisiana owner put over a million miles on his 2007 Tundra in eight years; Toyota gave him a new truck and took his apart to study it.

Toyota's Texas Tundra plant sits on land bought from the state's oldest working cattle ranch, and the 1794 Edition is named for the year that ranch was founded.

Its launch colours had pun names such as "Anti-Establish Mint" and "Freudian Gilt", sent to Lee Iacocca by a friend.
